Hey, West Hills ..... What's Your FunFocus™ Major?
Now boys and girls going into grades 3 through 8 (not including travel programs) can experience something totally new and, we think, very innovative and exciting! We call it PICK YOUR MAJOR. Basically we will be offering our campers a choice of one of four majors. Their programming will be based upon the major each camper chooses.
Select from the following Majors:
General Programming
This is basically our traditional, all-around, West Hills program. It includes a mixture of all the activities West Hills has to offer (age appropriate, of course). There will be team sports, individual skill activities (e.g. tennis, challenge courses, yoga, swimming, fishing & boating, etc.). The staff members are groomed in the WH tradition: safety, instruction, and tons of fun!
Sports
The focus will be on four sports (baseball, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse) Each day will include five periods of one or more of the sports listed, two periods of swim, one period of lunch, and two periods of traditional favorites, e.g. bungee, challenge courses, fishing & boating, trapeze (new!), zip line, ga-ga, etc). Staffing will be based on counselors with sports backgrounds. A typical sports part of the day would include double periods of one or more of the sports listed, as well as an additional sports period or two. There will be skill development and plenty of game-play time for each sport throughout the week. If you are really into sports, this could be the major for you!
Arts & Technology
There will be five periods each day devoted to arts and technology. Those interested in sculpture, fine arts, digital photography, graphic design, theater arts, rocketry, computer animation, etc, might seriously consider this major. The staff for these groups will have backgrounds in the arts and technology field. As with the sports group, each day will also include two periods of swim, one lunch, and two periods of traditional favorites. A &T activities will include instruction and lots of on-task time insuring a maximum of fun!
High Adventure / Extreme Sports
(For grades 5 -8 only) Activities will be selected from the following: skate boarding, mountain biking, paintball, challenge courses, in-line skating, and rock-wall climbing. We are still looking at other options. There will also be an old fashioned camping trip as part of this major. Of course, staff will be selected according to their backgrounds and skill in the activities listed. On-camp activities will be included as described in the previously mentioned majors. NOTE: Since several of the activities listed will be off camp grounds, there will be an additional fee for enrollment in this program.)
